NEW YORK CITY, NY (Naked Departure) — AIRBNB ILLEGAL IN NEW YORK — PLEASE be advised that GOVERNOR ANDREW CUOMO dealt a huge blow and declared war on Airbnb hosts (October, 2016), when he bowed to pressure from the hotel industry and signed one of the nation’s toughest laws regulating the home-sharing service — including steep fines just for advertising short-term rentals.
Cuomo signed a bill that would impose fines of up to $7,500 against hosts who posted short-term rentals, or who were renting out whole apartments for less than 30 days. In fact, this had been illegal in NYC since 2010.
In essence, short-term Airbnb’s rentals in New York are ILLEGAL! Any advertisements you see on Airbnb offering such short-term accommodations are ILLEGAL. What happens is you have to ‘pretend’ you are visiting family or friends to get away with staying at an Airbnb for less than 30 days.
With that headache in mind, maybe it’s better to check into a cheap hotel! Naked Departure
